Finding a Primary Care Physicians

The doctor-patient relationship is important. You trust your doctor about your health and put your life in the hands of your doctor. If you suffer from a condition that requires the attention of a specialist, you may not be able to go directly to the professional without first visiting a general practitioner and receiving a referral.

Many insurance plans will force you to choose direct primary care phisicians, and it is key that you find a doctor with whom you feel comfortable. Many insurance companies only provide coverage to you if you go to a physician who is on their list of approved practitioners. Thus, you have to obtain a list of physicians who are allied with your health insurance agent. Narrow your list to doctors whose office are convenient for you.

You never know when you'll have to go to the doctor's office, so it is very helpful to find one close to you. You can also get advice from friends to see if they have visited and loved the primary care physicians, or PCPs, on your list. Once you've narrowed your list down to 2-4 doctors, you should contact them.

You should inquire about their hours as well as an option for treatment at night and on weekends. From here, you can visit the office in person. Look to make sure that the facility is clean, the staff is friendly, and that you feel comfortable in the office. In the office, you can arrange an appointment to speak with your doctor. You should meet with your PCP and ask him questions that you may have.
